Kim Wages

Thirty plus years ago, Kim Wages determined she wanted to become a registered nurse to assist people regain their health. However, she needed to return to college.  Kim previously obtained a Bachelors in Business Administration from Georgia College in Marketing. She worked in the business marketing arena for several years.  She decided to return to her Alma Mata in 1992 to obtain her degree in nursing. She worked in many areas of the hospital while in nursing school but spent much of her time working on the Ortho/Neuro Unit. Kim gained further valuable experience as a RN on the Ortho/Neuro Unit. Subsequently, she took a position in case management helping people to return to work after they recovered from their on-the-job injuries. Kim began studying a nursing specialty as a Certified Rehabilitation Registered Nurse (CRRN) 1997.

 

While employed in the role of case management, Kim assisted in providing care to many catastrophically injured people. She realized there was more to learn about helping people recover after these injuries. Her mentor, Shelene Giles shared the growing trend in the field of Nurse Life Care Planning. The process was to assist people with catastrophic injuries obtain medical care and financial support related to those injuries. 

Kim took a course in Nurse Life Care Planning and obtained certification (CNLCP) 2004. In pursuit of learning more about the process of helping these clients, she learned there was another piece of the puzzle which is Medicare Set-Aside (MSA’s) reports.  Kim began contacting insurance carriers, employers and attorneys regarding her new abilities to prepare these plans and reports. Her previous marketing degree was instrumental in developing business. Eventually she started her own company promoting services to assist these catastrophic clients.

Kim has shared her knowledge and passion for Nurse Life Care Planning with other nurses for several years. She initially assisted seasoned Nurse Life Care Planners in preparation/research of Nurse Life Care Plans. Kim has prepared many plans focusing on a variety of conditions including head injuries, spinal cord injuries, chronic pain and cerebral palsy. Also, she has prepared and assisted others in preparing many nurse life care plans of burn survivors. Kim has completed hundreds of MSA’s. She is an active member in several organizations with interests in these various nursing specialties. She served on the American Association of Nurse Life Care Planners (AANLCP) Executive Board as Secretary in 2009. 

Kim works at FIG Education, Inc. as Project Manager to assist in all areas of the company. She shares information with people inquiring about life care planning and nurse life care planning. She provides support to students as needed. Kim manages FIG Education Certification division.

Kim’s passion is traveling and scuba diving. She has been to many tropical destinations with her husband Mel.
